Fire and Flood Restoration Relax, Count from One to Ten

Listed here are some things that you the consumer would want to consider when it comes to your fire, flood, water or damage recovery project.

First, do assess the damage and see what if anything can be salvaged and what can be trashed.  This includes taking pictures of everything.
Second, make sure to get in touch with your insurance adjuster if you have one immediately.  If so, find out if your fire and flood damage is even covered.  Many insurance companies have various riders and fine prints that could be easily overlooked.
Third, formulate a plan of action for you and your family.  Where will you stay?  How will you store things salvaged?  Have you called family, friends?
Fourth, find a good fire and flood restoration and/or mold or damage remediation company if your adjuster has not recommended one for you.  You might even decide to go with another company if you do not feel comfortable with the company recommended.  Check your insurance for policies and procedures.
Fifth, in your search for a restoration cleaning service provider, note their demeanor.  Are they pleasant?  Do they seem to understand your particular need?  Are you being treated like a number?  What does your gut tell you?
Sixth, once decided upon get a quote for your services.  Sometimes its good to get two or three quotes, sometimes the sense of urgency calls for the first guy who arrives.
Seventh, note the fire and flood contractor's credentials if any.  He represents the company you are considering to have in your home for a very important project.  Make sure you feel comfortable with this individual.
Eighth, get as much documentation and pictures that you can throughout the process, and your fire and flood damage specialist should be doing the same.  If he is not, you might not have the right representative in your corner.
Ninth, find out your guarantees, warranties, and any other pertinent information.  Your adjuster if you have one can assist with this step by step process.  Get things in writing.
Tenth, get down to business and get the project underway as soon as humanly possible.  Because waiting and being indecisive can only make matters worse for you, your family and your structure's integrity.  Get the job done immediately if possible.  The goal is to save your investment.  Think smart and follow your instincts, oh and don't forget to take a deep breath and count from one to ten.
